New York Giants outside linebacker Oshane Ximines is eligible to be activated from injured reserve this week after being shut down with a shoulder injury early in October.
Ximines last played against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4, but it seems the Giants will have to wait a little longer to get him back in the lineup.
“He’s making a lot of progress. We’re hoping to see him sooner than later. It won’t be this week for him right now,” head coach Joe Judge said on Wednesday. “He’s making a lot of gains. I think the biggest balance with those guys is balancing with the trainers at what point can we put him out there and know he can properly defend himself and execute aggressively. He’s been working with the trainers very hard. He’s been getting some work in the weight room done and those have been positives. We’ve got Washington and Philly and a bye week coming up. Somewhere in that window hopefully we get him back.”
The Giants will take on the Washington Football Team this Sunday, whom New York defeated for their lone win of the season in Week 6. After that, the Giants will take on the division rival Philadelphia Eagles before heading to their bye week.
With the indication that Ximines may not return prior to the bye week, the Week 12 game against the Cincinnati Bengals seems to be the realistic target for the linebacker’s return.
Surprisingly enough, the Giants’ defense and, in particular, their pass rush has played well all season long despite the injuries to Ximines and Lorenzo Carter and the departure of 2019 sack leader Markus Golden, who was traded to the Arizona Cardinals a few weeks ago.
Ximines was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft with one of the picks the Giants acquired in the Odell Beckham Jr. trade. As the Giants continue to build their roster, they hope that Ximines continues to grow in their system.
