Giants may have a shot at Chase Young after all

It’s an extreme long-shot, but there is an NFL Draft scenario in which Chase Young falls to the New York Giants at No. 4.

The dream draft scenario for New York Giants fans is one that has Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young falling to them at No. 4 in the first round. We know, it’s a long-shot to happen, but what if it does? What would have to go right for the Giants for it to happen?

It’s a bit of perfect storm, but Paul Schwartz of the New York Post has mapped out a scenario in which Young falls to the Giants in a mad rush of teams jockeying to the top to secure a quarterback.

The Redskins made some noise this week when new head coach Ron Rivera said his team will meet with Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa — raising speculation he is not high on Dwayne Haskins, who is coming off a so-so rookie year. If the Redskins take a quarterback and the Lions trade out of the No. 3 spot to allow a team to move up for a quarterback — Justin Herbert or, if someone sees Utah’s Jordan Love as another Patrick Mahomes — Young could slide to the Giants at No. 4.

It’s not a crazy as it sounds. Everyone in this league has seen what a franchise quarterback can do for a team and there are at least four worth trading up for. If Joe Burrow somehow gets past Cincinnati at No. 1, he’s sure to go in the next few picks. Tua, if deemed healthy, is a Top 3 pick. Herbert has looked good at the Combine and like Paul said, Love is an intriguing pick.

The frenzy could get crazy to the point where the Redskins and Lions decide the offers are just too good to pass up. Both teams — like the Giants – need a ton, so a booty of picks would be the right way to go.

If that happens, Young could get caught in the undertow and land right in the Giants’ lap. But, like we mentioned, it’s a long-shot.

Young is probably the best player in the draft, and hails from Maryland. His close friendship with Dwayne Haskins is another tie that points him the Redskins’ way.

This is a crazy league, though, with 32 converging and conflicting philosophies. Anything can happen. The worst case scenario? Young falls to the Giants at four and Dave Gettleman takes another player. Now, that could happen.
