The New York Giants have loaded up at both wide receiver and tight end this offseason, but no addition has the potential to mean more than Kenny Golladay.
Not since Odell Beckham Jr. called East Rutherford home have the Giants had a true No. 1 wide receiver, which has been particularly problematic for quarterback Daniel Jones.
Golladay immediately comes in and gives the Giants the big-bodied, contested catch threat they’ve been lacking. In fact, he completely transforms their offense with a near perfect match between skill and need.
Still, Pro Football Focus is not overly high on Golladay in comparison to other receivers across the league, listing him at No. 19 overall in their preseason wide receiver rankings.
19. KENNY GOLLADAY, NEW YORK GIANTS
Before an injury-riddled 2020 campaign, Golladay established himself as one of the best deep threats and contested-catch specialists in the NFL. In 2018 and 2019 combined, he racked up the third-most deep (20-plus-yard target) receiving yards, with 930, and he tied for first in contested catches, with 43.
Hopefully for the Giants, Golladay’s addition makes offensive coordinator Jason Garrett more willing to call downfield shots for Daniel Jones, who ranked third in passing grade on throws of 20-plus yards in 2020 but slotted in at 17th in total deep completions (20). A perfect marriage? Only time will tell.
No other Giants wide receivers made PFF’s list, but somewhat ironically, the aforementioned Beckham, who is coming off multiple injury-plagued seasons of his own, was ranked one spot ahead of Golladay at No. 18 overall.
