Giants’ Kenny Golladay: I was yelling at Jason Garrett, not Daniel Jones

New York Giants WR Kenny Golladay says he was yelling at Jason Garrett and not Daniel Jones during a Thursday night loss to Washington.

During the fourth quarter of a 30-29 loss to the Washington Football Team on Thursday night, New York Giants wide receiver Kenny Golladay was seen on the sidelines letting loose.

Initially, it appeared Golladay was having some words with quarterback Daniel Jones — something Jones seemed to confirm after the game.

“I think he was frustrated with the situation,” Jones told reporters. “We’re all good. I love Kenny, I thought he played hard and did a lot of good things out there. I’ve got to do a better job of finding him in some places and we’ll work through it.”

Jones later stressed that Golladay wasn’t attempting to show him up.

As it turns out, Jones was right. Golladay wasn’t attempting to show him up. And despite appearances, the receiver wasn’t blowing up on Jones at all.

Golladay was actually screaming at offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.

“No, not so much [about me getting more targets]. Pretty much just me talking to JG a little bit and that’s two competitive guys right there. Moreso, just me wanting to do anything I can. Not so much, ‘Give me the ball more,’ though,” Golladay told reporters on Monday.

Phew. Golladay wasn’t dressing down his quarterback on national television, just his offensive coordinator.

“Really, I’ve never done anything like that either – but really just passionate, just being a competitor. I love just doing anything I can to help the team. I let the emotions get the best of me,” Golladay added.

It’s much easier to understand Golladay’s frustrations with Garrett than with Jones, if we’re all being honest. He’s certainly not the only one fed up with Garrett’s play-calling at this point, but he still didn’t necessarily go about it the right way.

“I mean, that was literally right there during the game. Me and [Garrett] spoke right after the game. It was literally nothing,” Golladay said. “There’s a lot of football left. We’ve got to put that behind us and just focus on Atlanta.

“I’m happy with the role. I’d say I’m happy with the role. I’m getting put in some tough situations and [I’ve] got to make some tough catches, and that’s all I could ask for.”

The Giants have done a good job putting a lid on the Golladay and Toney situations, but how long that lasts remains to be seen. Where there’s smoke there’s usually fire, and there’s a lot of smoke in East Rutherford right now.
