Even prior to the Washington Football Team defeating the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, the NFC East had essentially evened out in recent weeks and opened the door for any of the four teams to burst through.
The Giants and head coach Joe Judge are well aware of that and despite their laser focus on the Cincinnati Bengals, they recognize the opportunity standing before them.
“Not to give you coach speak, but we definitely embrace every opportunity. I talked to our players today about embracing the opportunity we had to go out there today,” Judge told reporters on Wednesday. “I think when you look at this division, this is really the starting point for the division. We’re coming out of Thanksgiving after this weekend, everyone is really on equal ground. The only thing that matters is what we do from this point forward.”
But the Giants aren’t going to rely on anyone else to carve their path — they know that’s a fool’s errand. Rather, it’s all about taking care of their own business beginning with the Bengals in Week 12.
“We have to show consistent improvement. I think our players have done that throughout the year, but nothing before this game is going to matter,” Judge said. “Nothing is going to help us beat the Bengals other than what we do this week to prepare and how we execute for 60 minutes against Cincinnati. In terms of the entire division, the most important thing truly is what I always say, is being a better team every week and being a better team at the end of the season because everyone right now is on equal ground going forward.”
Are the Giants the better team? Are they the best the NFC East has to offer? They’ve certainly looked the part in recent weeks but the big test comes on Sunday when they hit the road as heavy favorites in a game they’re supposed to win. That’s a lot of pressure and how this young team handles it will tell us a lot about who they really are.
