Giants’ Joe Judge gives Golden Tate day off after family venting

Golden Tate gets the day off on Wednesday.

New York Giants head coach Joe Judge told the media Wednesday that wide receiver Golden Tate had the day off following some of the drama that took place during Monday night’s loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Judge wouldn’t specifically disclose why Tate had the day off but anyone on social media knows the likely reason. Because the Giants had a Monday night game, Wednesday’s practice was just a walkthrough, and Judge did say Tate would be back in the building for Thursday’s practice.

Following a spectacular touchdown catch late in the fourth quarter that helped the Giants almost tie the game, Tate made it known to the camera that he wants to be more involved in the passing game—and that’s putting it lightly.

While Judge didn’t specifically say if Tate’s absence was a punishment, he didn’t deny it either.

“Yeah I spoke to Golden at length today. We’re dealing internally with a lot of things. We have a walkthrough today, he’s not going to be at the walkthrough today but he will be back in the building and practicing with us for the remainder of the week business as usual,” Judge said Wednesday. “We are going to deal with this internally, and that’s all I’m really going to say about that.”

It also doesn’t help that Tate’s wife made her voice heard on Instagram, ripping the Giants for her husband’s lack of usage in the passing game. On the season, Tate has 29 targets in seven games while recording 22 receptions for 226 yards and two touchdowns.

It remains to be seen if this will be an issue moving forward, but Judge is hoping they can put this all behind them with Tate’s day off on Wednesday.
