Giants’ Ihmir Smith-Marsette named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

New York Giants wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 17.

New York Giants wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette shined in Week 17 against the Indianapolis Colts, returning the second-half kickoff 100 yards to the house.

Smith-Marsette had been close to breaking one off for weeks and it finally happened on Sunday, much to the delight of his teammates.

The return, which gave the Giants a 28-13, was tied for the longest kick return in team history and was their first since October 25, 2015 (Dwayne Harris).

“Somebody told me it was the first one since 2015,” Smith-Marsette said after the game. “Nine years, that’s a pretty long time. I’m happy. Hopefully, I can do it again sometime.”

Smith-Marsette’s effort was further rewarded on Monday as he was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

For the Giants, this is their second NFC Special Teams Player of the Week Award this season. Defensive back Isaiah Simmons previously took home the honor in Week 5.
