Giants hold pre-draft visit with North Carolina QB Sam Howell

The New York Giants will hold a pre-draft visit with North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell.

When the University of North Carolina held its pro day in late March, the New York Giants were among those in attendance. They had sent director of player personnel Tim McDonnell and others to watch quarterback Sam Howell & Co.

Apparently, the Giants didn’t quite have their fill of Howell.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that Howell is scheduled for a slew of pre-draft visits on Friday and into the weekend. Among those stops will be MetLife Stadium and East Rutherford, New Jersey.

But don’t read too much into it, Giants fans. Although the team had people at Howell’s pro day and are now meeting with him, Garafolo notes that New York remains firmly committed to Daniel Jones.

“They’re not going to be taking him up top — at the top of the draft,” Garafolo said. “That would be a potentially second round or thereafter interest from the Giants in Howell because we know they are committed to Daniel Jones; to doing the right things around Daniel Jones to see if he’s successful.”

That’s not what some want to hear, but the Giants have been very transparent in their commitment to Jones from co-owner John Mara to general manager Joe Schoen to head coach Brian Daboll.

Still, it would be foolish not to check in on all players who will potentially be available when the Giants are put on the clock later this month.
