New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate finally met with reporters on Friday, one day after he was originally scheduled to hold a Zoom call, and accepted responsibility for his actions in Week 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“If you know me and you know my game, I play with a lot of emotion and a lot of passion. I got caught up in the moment,” a sullen Tate said. “I was wrong to draw attention to myself and I take full responsibility for that. I handled it the wrong way and brought negative attention to our organization. It won’t happen again.”
There had been some speculation that Tate’s outburst stemmed from a desire to be traded, but he disputed those rumors and committed himself to the Giants long-term.
“I believe in this organization and I believe in where they’re heading. I believe in the people they’re bringing in to be a part of this. I’m thankful that I have an opportunity to be a part of it,” Tate said. “I just know that I’m excited to be a part of it now and hopefully I can do my part to get us to where we want to be.”
As far as his wife lashing out against the team on social media, Tate dismissed it as nothing more than a wife’s love for her husband.
“She is my biggest fan and always has my back,” he added.
After his tirade in Week 8, Tate was told to stay home for a day and then found himself relegated to the scout team. He was later left home on a trip to Washington, but welcomed back earlier this week.
Tate participated in the team’s Wednesday walkthrough, but suffered a minor knee injury late during Thursday’s practice. He was back at it on Friday and is expected to play against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
