Giants fortify their last place spot in the NFC East

With their ninth straight loss, the New York Giants have fortified their spot in the basement of the NFC East — the NFL’s worst division.

NFL representatives had to shut down a push to reseed the NFC Playoffs due to the remarkable futility of the NFC East this week, which speaks to just how far this once proud divisional has fallen.

At the end of 14 weeks, the NFC East does not have a single team over .500 and it’s entirely possible the division winner finishes with a record of 7-9.

Here’s a look at how all four teams stack up entering the final three weeks of the season:

Dallas Cowboys (6-7)

After falling to the Chicago Bears, 31-24, the Cowboys have now lost three straight games, four of their past five and have allowed the Philadelphia Eagles back into the race. They look like a mess across the board, Jason Garrett’s hot seat must be causing permanent burns and Jerry Jones is losing his mind in public, including an expletive-filled radio interview. Good times in Dallas.

Philadelphia Eagles (6-7)

The Eagles were able to weather an unexpected storm on Monday night, recovering from a 17-3 halftime deficit to score 20 unanswered points in an overtime victory against the Giants. While the win feels good for Philly, they hardly look like a team capable of competing and now find themselves completely ravaged by injuries.

Washington Redskins (3-10)

After two straight wins, the Redskins got back to losing in Week 14, although they did have a somewhat impressive showing against the Green Bay Packers all things considered. But it’s all divisional games from here on out for Washington — Philadelphia, New York and Dallas to end the season.

New York Giants (2-11)

The Giants are mired in the worst losing streak in their entire history and are now finding/inventing new ways to lose and crush the soul of their fans. Co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch are undoubtedly losing their patience and with each passing moment, it seems more and more likely that Pat Shurmur gets a pink slip on Black Monday.
