Giants drop in ESPN’s post-draft power rankings

The New York Giants had an excellent 2020 NFL Draft haul, but that didn’t stop them from dropping in ESPN’s latest power rankings.

The New York Giants have received near universal praise for their selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, but that has not yielded them much respect when it comes to power rankings or power polls.

That trend continued earlier this week when ESPN released their post-draft power rankings and actually had the Giants dropping a spot to No. 29, just barely staving off the Cincinnati Bengals (30), Washington Redskins (31) and Jacksonville Jaguars (32) for last place.

29. New York Giants

Post-free-agency ranking: 28

Player who benefited: QB Daniel Jones. The Giants committed to protecting Jones well into the future. And not just with tackle Andrew Thomas at No. 4 overall. They drafted three offensive linemen in the first five rounds for the first time in the modern draft era. Thomas, tackle Matt Peart and guard/center Shane Lemieux are now part of the draft class that will forever be known as GM Dave Gettleman’s last stab at fixing this offensive line “once and for all.” The idea is for an improved line to protect Jones and Saquon Barkley. Hard to argue with the logic.

The Giants made the right choices and fixed areas of need, but somehow still dropped. All right.

Comparatively, ESPN has the Philadelphia Eagles checking in at No. 12 overall and the Dallas Cowboys checking in at No. 10 overall. And in the event you care, the New York Jets checked in at No. 26 overall.
