Giants draft pick Xavier McKinney knows who he wants to pick off first

New York Giants second-round draft pick, safety Xavier McKinney, already knows who he wants to intercept first.

New York Giants second-round draft pick Xavier McKinney is anxious to hit the ground running and already knows which quarterback he wants to intercept first.

Well, sort of…

McKinney has no idea which quarterback that will be since the NFL regular season schedule has not yet been released, but he knows he’d like it to be whoever he squares off with in Week 1.

“The first one I play, I don’t have one in particular, I want to make the play against whoever,” McKinney said during a Bleacher Report AMA. “I just want to help the team as much as I can. For me, I pride myself on being able to contribute and have an impact on the game. That’s what I look forward to the most, whatever the coaches ask of me.”

Someone McKinney won’t have the opportunity to face in 2020 is his former Alabama teammate Tua Tagovailoa, but when the Giants and Miami Dolphins do meet somewhere down the line, that game will be circled on the safety’s calendar.

“[I’m] pretty excited to play against him,” McKinney said, also calling Tua one of the best Alabama players ever. “Of course we practiced against each other but never a real game. That’s going to be exciting, we’ve always had battles in practice. We’ve give each other that look to get inside each other’s head.”

For now however, McKinney is just focused on learning the new system, getting to know his teammates and doing whatever he can to make the Giants a better team.

“Just trying to do anything I can and provide a winning attitude to the team. I just want to play football and whatever I need to do I’m ready. It feels good. I’m just trying to do everything that I can,” McKinney said.
