The New York Giants have gone through some major changes this offseason, completely overhauling their front office and scouting department and hiring another new head coach (Brian Daboll), the fifth since Tom Coughlin left in 2016.
That hasn’t moved the needle on the football world’s opinion of them, however. In Pro Football Focus’ latest power rankings, the Giants are rated 26th overall in a category labeled “Stuck in Limbo.”
The biggest additions the Giants made were at general manager and head coach, and Brian Daboll, in particular, could have a real impact on Daniel Jones at quarterback. Jones was a top-five graded quarterback in the league through the first month of the season in 2021 before the wheels fell off as the offense disintegrated around him. The Giants did what they could on the offensive line, and the receiving corps staying healthy would be a big boost for the team overall. The Giants offense could be a surprise unit in 2022.
That’s all true. But fans and pundits must see the Giants succeed before having any kind of respect or credibility on them. The Giants have lost 10 or more games in each of the last five seasons and in seven of their last eight.
A new offensive approach with a retooled offensive line should help them compete better in 2022 and with Wink Martindale now running the defense, they are expected to be respectable on that side of the ball as well.
