Giants’ Deonte Banks thinks Brian Daboll could run sub-7.0 40-yard dash

New York Giants CB Deonte Banks believes head coach Brian Daboll could, in fact, run the 40-yard dash is under seven seconds.

During episode 2 of “Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants,” head coach Brian Daboll insisted he could run a sub-7.0 in the 40-yard dash while scouting at the NFL Combine.

Giants executives, including general manager Joe Schoen, scoffed at the notion, much to the dismay of Daboll.

“I guarantee you I could run a 7.0 40,” Daboll told the front office members. “If you put a plate full of wings on the other end, I’m doing that.”

The immediate response was a unified “no way,” followed by a little ribbing courtesy of Tim McDonnell, the team’s director of player personnel.

“Dude, I saw you run across the street two nights ago,” he said, drawing laughs from the group.

At the time, Daboll was a bit heavier than he is now. He went through a full offseason transformation and lost what appears to be a significant amount of weight. And following that drop in pounds, second-year cornerback Deonte Banks believes Daboll would shock the masses and run a sub-7.0 40-yard dash.

“I think he can,” Banks told Steve Serby of the New York Post. “That’s my dog, I think he can do it!”

In 2005, NFL analyst Rich Eisen posted a 6.77 in the 40. Since then, he’s run every single year with his best time coming in 2016 when he clocked in at 5.94.

Daboll is six years younger than Eisen and following his dramatic weight loss, certainly seems capable of running under 7.0.

Ultimately, Giants Wire agrees with Banks. We think Dabes could do it.
