The New York Giants came into this draft willing to wheel and deal as they only had three picks in the top 100 in a draft that is more than 100 players deep.
Giants general manager Dave Gettleman stayed at No. 36 and selected Alabama safety Xavier McKinney on Friday night, but said he would have traded back if McKinney was off the board.
The Giants do not select again until the end of third round (No. 99) and Gettleman said he was not likely to move up in the order if it meant dipping into next year’s draft capital…
Giants don't pick again until 99 (thanks to the Leonard Williams trade). Dave Gettleman said "If we move up we’re not going to dip into next year’s draft class. We’re going to sit here and be patient. … Trading up is obviously difficult."

The Giants have eight selections remaining, including No. 99 in Round 3. They own one selection in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds and own four picks in Round 7.
Thus far they covered two glaring needs in offensive tackle (Andrew Thomas) and now at safety with McKinney.
