When things go bad, they go really bad. Just ask the New York Giants, who have the worst record in the NFL since the beginning of the 2017 season (18-48).
On Thursday night in Washington, they left 11 points on the field in a one-point loss and topped that off by allowing the WFT a second chance at a game-winning field goal by committing a penalty on the miss that would have iced the game.

One of the biggest plays the Giants would like to have back was a sure 43-yard touchdown connection that slipped through the hands of a wide open Darius Slayton in the middle of the fourth quarter. Some might say that quarterback Daniel Jones laid the ball out a bit too far for Slayton.
“Tried to run it down, probably should have dove,” Slayton told reporters after the game on Thursday. “Didn’t quite make the play.”
It’s a catch that the third-year receiver out of Auburn usually makes with no problem. This time, he simply didn’t.
“It’s a play that I 100 percent expect to make. Like I said, tried to run it down, I should have ran it down. I’ve ran down a lot of balls in my life. At the end of the day, it’s a four-quarter game and the game was far from over at that point. Had to move on quick and today is a new day, next week is a new week. Move on quick and make it back in the future,” he said.
There is nothing Slayton can do it about now other than to chalk it up to experience and posterity and never do it again. He did not lay any of the blame at the feet of Jones, who is the most accurate deep passer in the NFL.
“I think he played a great game. I think he made all the throws he needed to make to win the game,” Slayton said. “Like you already said, I could have helped him out making a play for him. Probably gives us a good chance to win the game. That’s who we believe he is. We believe that he is that guy that’s going to go out there, make the throws, make the plays to win the games and that’s what he showed last night.”
Jones did make all the throws needed to win on Thursday yet the Giants still came up short. That is further evidence that he is not the problem with this team.
