Giants’ Darius Slayton offers hilarious take on trade rumors

New York Giants WR Darius Slayton, who has managed to keep his sense of humor, offered up a terrific take on the trade rumors.

Cutdown day in the NFL has come and gone, and wide receiver Darius Slayton remains a member of the New York Giants. But for how long?

Although Slayton escaped Tuesday’s deadline without being moved, there remains a very realistic possibility he’s dealt in the coming days. After all, the Giants have been receiving calls about him.

To their credit, the Giants were open and honest with Slayton. They informed him that calls were coming in and they haven’t publicly committed to keeping him.

“We’ll see. We’ll see where we’re at right now,” head coach Brian Daboll said when asked if Slayton would be on the Week 1 roster. “We had a good conversation with Darius . . . about expectation (and his) role. He’s done a good job, and we’re excited to have him.”

Slayton himself admitted he wouldn’t be surprised if he were cut or traded, but so far he’s avoided those things. At least for now.

“I don’t think surprised is the word. I don’t think I would be surprised now,” Slayton told reporters on Sunday. “Every year, it’s kind of like my fourth time doing this. I don’t know. I don’t really stress about it too much. At the end of the day, if it’s meant for me to be here, I’ll be here. If it’s not, I won’t.”

And he’s not bothered by the rumors, either. In fact, Slayton completely understands the business side of things and offered a hilarious take when asked about it on Tuesday.

“Their job is to do what’s best for this team. So if somebody calls them and like if the Rams called and were like we’ll give you Aaron Donald for Darius Slayton, I mean I’d make that trade, too,” Slayton said, via Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.

Slayton added that he doesn’t take any of it personally, noting that it’s general manager Joe Schoen’s job to do what’s in the best interest of the team.

Kudos to Slayton for keeping a sense of humor and maintaining a balanced understand of the NFL’s business side.
