Giants’ Brian Daboll ran offensive meetings ahead of Commanders game

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll reportedly took control and ran offensive meetings ahead of a Week 7 game against Washington.

The New York Giants offense has not scored a touchdown in more than a month and the team is averaging a league-worst 11.8 points per game.

Something has to change and head coach Brian Daboll took it upon himself to be that change ahead of a Week 7 game against the Washington Commanders.

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports that Daboll turned back the clock to his Buffalo Bills days and took control of offensive meetings this week.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll turned back to the clock to his days as the Bills’ offensive coordinator this week and ran the Giants’ offensive meetings with players as he once did in Buffalo.

This is the first week Daboll has taken this drastic measure. He was not only discussing game strategy and game plan. He was also coaching individual position groups and players on his expectations and adjustments for specific plays in those meetings.

That included detailed instructions for the offensive line, his team’s Achilles heel.

Earlier this year, there was speculation that Daboll had taken over play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Mike Kafka but both denied those rumors. And despite the team’s struggles, Daboll has remained in Kafka’s corner.

Kafka, meanwhile, has shouldered blame for the struggles (205 game minutes without a touchdown) and admits that something has to give.

“It’s really everything. You look at our fundamentals, our techniques, look at some of the drives that we’re running there. What’s stopping us from getting points? Is it penalties? Is it execution? Is it play calling? So, you evaluate that,” Kafka told reporters this week.

“I’m really critical of myself on all those things, too. We practice it, we talk about it, we had some opportunities (in Week 6). We had five opportunities down there; we weren’t able to get into the endzone, but I think it’s a step in the right direction. We got some opportunities, now we’ve got to capitalize on them.”

We’ll see on Sunday if Daboll’s influence yields different results.
