Giants’ Brian Daboll focused on urgency, execution against Commanders

New York Giants coach Brian Daboll says urgency and execution are key in taking down the Washington Commanders in a “must-win” Week 15 game.

It’s not often in the NFL that two teams face each other in a span of three weeks, and back-to-back for one of the two, but that’s exactly what’s happening with the New York Giants and Washington Commanders.

The two teams faced off three weeks ago and will face each other again this Sunday at FedEx Field in Maryland.

There are advantages and disadvantages to playing the same team so close together, but Giants head coach Brian Daboll remains focused on urgency and execution.

“I think every game you have to be urgent. You have to be urgent in Week 1 against Tennessee just like you have to be urgent here. It’s a division game, so that’s always important,” Daboll told reporters.

Considering these two teams tied each other three weeks ago, this game is incredibly important. It will determine who wins the head-to-head tiebreaker on the season, which could bolster or crush either team’s playoff aspirations.

Daboll isn’t naive, either. He knows that the Commanders have the same advantages as the Giants by playing each other twice in three weeks.

“It helps everybody. But really, the biggest thing is going to be able to execute and play well against them this week,” he said.

Urgency and execution are incredibly important to the Giants’ ability to win on Sunday, and every game in the NFL is a ‘must-win,’ according to Daboll.

“I view every game as a ‘must win’ game. That’s why you go play them. It’s the next game, it’s important, it’s against a division team. We got to go out there and play well,” he added.

The Giants have a tall task ahead if they want to make the playoffs this season, but if they play with urgency and execute plays as they are practiced, they are more likely to earn a playoff berth.

Even a wildcard spot is a massive improvement over what the Giants have produced over the last several years, but they have to win this game before that’s a consideration. Urgency and execution will go a long way toward that goal.
