Giants awarded three compensatory picks, will select “Mr. Irrelevant”

The New York Giants were awarded three compensatory picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, including No. 255 overall, “Mr. Irrelevant.”

After what seems like a lengthy and curious delay, the NFL officially awarded compensatory picks for the 2020 NFL Draft on Tuesday.

As expected, the New York Giants were awarded three picks — one third rounder and two seventh rounders. The third-round pick is No. 99 overall, while the seventh-round picks are No. 247 and No. 255 overall, respectively.

Pick No. 255 is, of course, famously dubbed, “Mr. Irrelevant.”

How those picks were determined and distributed was explained by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Under the NFL’s net gain/loss formula, the Giants would have qualified for a fourth compensatory pick (No. 33 or beyond), but league rules mandate only 32 compensatory picks be awarded each year.
