Giants’ Andrew Thomas will have MRI on injured hamstring

New York Giants LT Andrew Thomas will undergo an MRI on his injured hamstring on Monday morning.

The New York Giants were humiliated in front of the nation on Sunday night, falling to the Dallas Cowboys, 40-0, in a game that wasn’t even that close.

But their early-season nightmare could just be beginning.

Left tackle Andrew Thomas suffered a hamstring injury during a blocked punt in the first quarter and was eventually forced to leave the game late. He tried to gut it out but will head for an MRI on Monday.

Given the team’s lack of depth at offensive tackle, losing Thomas for any extended period of time could be a deathknell for the Giants.

But even with Thomas on the field, the Giants’ offensive line was useless. They surrendered 15 pressures, 12 QB hits, 7.0 sacks and were called for several more penalties. After the first few series, run blocking also went out the window.

Thomas was not without fault, although he could realistically blame the injury.

“I’m supposed to be a captain and a leader. And I don’t think I played to that standard today,” Thomas said after the game, via Pat Leonard.

The Giants are in trouble and there’s no other way to spin it. Their offensive line remains an Achilles heel and if Thomas has to sit out some games, it’s only going to get worse.
