Andrew Thomas is looking to impose his will on the offensive line during his third NFL season with the New York Giants.
Thomas has had a rollercoaster start to his career as he allowed the most pressures in the NFL in his rookie season. However, he bounced back tremendously in 2021 where he only allowed two sacks and 18 pressures, earning him the ranking of the 19th best tackle in football by Pro Football Focus.
Unfortunately for the Giants, their offensive line was horrid in both seasons despite Thomas improving.
One player can not make up for bad offensive line play and the Giants seem to finally be realizing this in 2022 as they have totally revamped their line. They added veteran interior linemen in Max Garcia, Mark Glowinski, and Jon Feliciano.
Big Blue also drafted Evan Neal with the seventh overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft to play right tackle opposite Thomas. And Thomas himself has begun to notice the changes and the promise in Neal.
“Honestly, I think our whole offensive line — we have some talented guys. It’s just day one, so right now we’re trying to build that unity because that’s being an offensive line. But Evan’s a very talented kid — physical freak, you know what I’m saying — so once he gets it down, he’s going to be pretty good,” Thomas told reporters.
Neal is a prospect that could have easily played left tackle so coming in on the right side and having that type of talent opposite of Thomas should be a tremendous help for the Giants.
Offensive line woes has been a recurring theme in the past few seasons so for this team to turn this unit around means they may actually be able to win some football games. The 2020 fourth overall pick believes in his unit and thinks that they will be able to lead the way for the offense’s success.
“The goal is to be dominant — to be the belle cows of the offense. Lead the guys, protect (Daniel Jones) so he can make throws to all the playmakers. That’s the goal,” Thomas said.
