If the New York Giants are going to bolster their offensive line this offseason, they’re going to have to focus on upgrading the tackle position first and foremost.
Despite knowing that, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora thinks the Giants and guard Joe Thuney are a “perfect match” in free agency.
They’ve re-set the offensive line market just a few years ago … might as well do it again! Heaven knows they still need the help! Go back to the Patriots well and hope Thuney does what Nate Solder has not to this point.
The former third-round pick out of North Carolina State is arguably the best interior offensive lineman on the open market this offseason, and while he’d certainly be an upgrade, it’s not the kind the Giants need most.
Thuney spent his time in New England playing at left guard, which means the Giants would have to either move Will Hernandez or have Thuney play on the right side.
And if either one of those things happen, Big Blue would then have to figure out what to do with Kevin Zeitler, who was the team’s starting right guard in 2019.
This scenario would lead to a messy situation that would have the Giants spending money at a position that isn’t necessarily needed. Big Blue would be better off taking the resources that would be used to sign Thuney and spending them on the exterior of the offensive line instead.
