With mere hours remaining until kickoff of their Week 1 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New York Giants announced that safety Sean Chandler and offensive lineman Chad Slade have been activated from their practice squad.
Under new NFL rules, clubs can activate two members of their 16-player practice squad on game day, giving them a total of 55 players on the roster.
Players can not be activated in consecutive weeks and can be activated just twice per season. If a player is activated a third time, they must be signed to the 53-man roster.
In addition to providing safety depth, Chandler will also likely see time on special teams. Slade, meanwhile, will serve as a reserve swing tackle.
