The New York Giants have activated offensive lineman Austin Schlottmann and defensive lineman Armon Watts from injured reserve (IR).
Schlottmann, who was signed early in free agency, landed on IR in late August. Head coach Brian Daboll never revealed the exact nature of his injury but did indicate it was serious. Since being designated to return, Schlottmann has appeared on the injury report with a “fibula.”
With John Michael Schmitz (ankle) out on Sunday, Schlottmann could slide in and start at center but that role may belong to Greg Van Roten this week, who would move over from right guard.
“He will,” head coach Brian Daboll said this week when asked if Van Roten would start at center.
Watts was placed on IR with a shoulder injury in late November and was expected to miss the remainder of the season. However, he made it back with two games left and will provide a veteran presence along the defensive line.
In a corresponding roster move, safety Raheem Layne has been placed on IR with a knee injury. It was previously reported that he suffered a torn meniscus.
Finally, linebacker Boogie Basham was elevated from the practice squad. It’s his second elevation of the season and he has one remaining.
