Tennessee senior track and field athlete Georgios Korakidis captured the school’s first medal at the Southeastern Conference outdoor championships Thursday in Oxford, Mississippi.
Korakidis, a senior for the Volunteers, won a bronze medal in the men’s hammer throw at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex.
His best throw of the day was an effort of 69.64 meters (228 feet, 5 inches). Three throws surpassed 64 meters.
His teammate with the Vols, Karl Thiessen, posted a fourth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run as he crossed the finish line in 29 minutes, 32.36 seconds.
For the Lady Vols, Sydney Seymour came in fourth in the women’s 10,000-meter run. She finished the race in 34:39.37. The mark represents the best time of her career and ranks fifth in UT history.
