The 4-0 Georgia Bulldogs remain the No. 1 team in the College Sports Wire power rankings. Georgia is getting significant credit for being defending back-to-back national champions.
The Bulldogs still have to prove themselves after an easy start to the year. Georgia’s first road game of the 2023 college football season is on Sept. 30 against the Auburn Tigers.
College Sports Wire is not particularly impressed with Georgia’s start to the season, but gives the Bulldogs a pass.
Allowing 21 points to a UAB team coached by Trent Dilfer wasn’t exactly ideal, nor was yet another sluggish start by the Bulldogs, but we’ll give them a pass considering they still won 49-21. While this team may not be as good as the last two squads in Athens, it’s hard to be too critical while its nation-leading 21-game win streak is still active.
Georgia is getting strong quarterback play out of Carson Beck, who is showing improvement. Beck scored four total touchdowns and will make his first career road start this week against Auburn.
Injuries are piling up for the Bulldogs. Georgia was without several preseason All-SEC picks against UAB: defensive end Mykel Williams, offensive tackle Amarius Mims, wide receiver Ladd McConkey, running back Kendall Milton and safety Javon Bullard.
