The Georgia Bulldogs (8-0, 6-0) defeated the Florida Gators (4-4, 2-4) on Saturday in Jacksonville by a score of 34-7.
21 of Georgia’s 34 points came in the final three minutes of the first half, when the Bulldogs forced three turnovers and scored three touchdown to take a 24-0 lead into the half.
This was certainly a great win for the Dawgs — anytime you beat Florida by nearly 30 points its hard to complain. But the scoreboard could be considered a bit deceiving to many.
Florida out-gained Georgia in total yards, 355-354.
Georgia’s offense got the job done, but it did not look like what you’d expect from the No. 1 team in America at points. Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett threw two interceptions compared to just one touchdown and had fans wondering if they were going to get to see JT Daniels at all. The answer was no. Bennett started and played the entire game.
Georgia ran the ball well, though. Zamir White tallied 105 yards, including a 42 yard touchdown toward the end of the game.
But again, it was the defense that carried Georgia to a victory. A defensive touchdown and two forced turnovers that gave UGA’s offense great field position proved to be the difference in the game. Nolan Smith recorded two takeaways — a fumble and an interception — and Nakobe Dean was responsible for the pick-six.
Georgia takes on the Missouri Tigers next Saturday at home with hopes of advancing to 9-0.
