Georges Niang out of protocol, ready to help Sixers move forward

Philadelphia 76ers forward Georges Niang is back with the team and he is ready to help.

The Philadelphia 76ers will have some reinforcements moving forward as it looks like they will welcome back Georges Niang from the health and safety protocols. He had not played since the team’s Dec. 13 matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies.

That means he has missed four games in a row where the Sixers went 1-3 during that stretch. The team missed Niang’s ability to stretch the floor at the power forward spot as a guy that opposing defenses have to pay attention to.

As the team prepares for the Washington Wizards on Sunday, Niang rejoined the team at shootaround that morning and he is feeling good and ready to help the team move forward.

“Great,” Niang said when asked how he was feeling. “Obviously, it’s been 10 days so I’m getting back to a routine and getting back to my normal life.”

It was tough for Niang to sit there and watch the team play and fight through the wars without him. The Sixers could have used a guy like him out on the floor in order to help the offense flow a little more smoothly.

“Just sitting there and watching,” he said. “I’ve had a preseason with these guys, a small part of this season, so just sitting there and not being able to go to war, as they say, with guys that you care about and an organization that believes in you is the most frustrating part. Especially the fact that I was asymptomatic most of the time so that’s frustrating, but I’m here.”

Niang did state that he did not have many symptoms. He was mostly just tired after they got home from Memphis.

“I was tired,” he explained. “Then again, I didn’t know if that—we got in at 3:00 in the morning from Memphis. So I didn’t know if it was that. So that’s the frustrating part.”

Now that he is back with the team, they will certainly need his scoring ability off the bench in order to fully get back on track.
