George Kittle calls out negative Trey Lance criticism: ‘You guys aren’t in the building’

“The people that are talking aren’t in the building every single day, so how much do they really know?”

George Kittle has seen the negative offseason rumors about Trey Lance and, much like his mentality with blocking, wants to run them into the ground.

“The people that are talking aren’t in the building every single day, so how much do they really know?” Kittle told USA TODAY’s Mackenzie Salmon in an interview on Sports Seriously

Earlier this offseason, Kittle told I Am Athlete that Lance has ‘Josh Allen-like’ traits and doubled down on those comments to Salmon.

“With Trey … he’s got an insane ceiling. The plays I’ve seen him make in practice are incredible,” Kittle said. “ All Trey Lance needs is reps and that’s all it is. He didn’t play a ton in college. He’s got the ability, he’s got the charisma, he’s got the character for it.”

Lance is currently taking first-team reps in OTAs while Jimmy Garoppolo rehabs from offseason shoulder surgery, but the messaging from head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch has been murky at best

“No one knows what’s going to happen at the quarterback position,” Kittle said. “If [Lance] is the starter, which I don’t know, that’s up to Kyle Shanahan. If there’s growing pains, I think we got enough good players all over this team that can help him out. That’s the plan.”
