George Hill out of cast, but remains inactive for Thunder

George Hill is out of his cast, but the OKC Thunder guard is inactive to rehab the thumb injury with the NBA trade deadline approaching.

Guard George Hill has come out of his cast, but the veteran is not active for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Head coach Mark Daigneault said Hill is going through a rehab process after getting thumb surgery in late January and missing almost two full months of play.

Hill’s return date remains unclear. Daigneault was asked if Hill is considered day-to-day and responded vaguely.

“I wouldn’t say day-to-day. Just like with everybody else, we’re going to remain cautious with him and do what we can to make sure he’s in really, really good shape,” Daigneault said.

“There is a rehab process that happens after you’re out of your cast with the surgery that he had.”

Oklahoma City has erred on the side of caution when it comes to injuries this season, preferring to wait a little longer before inserting a player back in the lineup, but the fact that the trade deadline is on Thursday may also play a role in the decision-making.

Hill is one of the players to be rumored on the market. A playoff-experienced guard with a non-guaranteed season next year, there have been reports of playoff contenders with interest.

His injury also gave the Thunder the chance to get a better look at young guards including Theo Maledon and Ty Jerome.

Hill has missed the last 27 games for Oklahoma City. In the 14 games he appeared in, the guard averaged 11.8 points and 3.1 assists while shooting 50.8% from the field and 38.6% from 3.

Time will tell if he gets a 15th game with the Thunder.
