Zach Wilson’s NFL career has not gotten off to the start that he would have hoped for. The 2021 No. 2 overall pick was benched in Week 16, booed by his own fans and had been among the worst quarterbacks in the league when he did play.
Geno Smith knows exactly what that is like.
The Seahawks defeated the Jets in Sunday’s Week 17 matchup as Seattle remains in the playoff picture thanks in part to Smith’s strong play this season. He’s a living reminder that quarterbacks can overcome early career struggles with the Jets. And he seemed to pass along that message to Wilson following the game at Lumen Field.

Postgame video showed Smith have an extended conversation with Wilson who was inactive on Sunday. Though we could not hear exactly what was said, it was apparent that Smith was encouraging Wilson as he went through a similar rough road with the Jets.
It was an awesome gesture from Smith — one that could go a long ways to boosting Wilson’s confidence. At the very least, fans loved that moment between the two quarterbacks.
