Imagine telling someone five years ago the Seattle Seahawks would have a top-10 quarterback going into the 2023 season and not only would it not be Russell Wilson, but instead Geno Smith. Shoot, just imagine telling someone last summer that Geno Smith would be a top-10 quarterback for 2023.

Life comes at you fast in the NFL. That often has a negative connotation, but sometimes it cuts the other way. Smith had a record-setting year for the Seahawks in 2022 and proved he was more than capable of leading an offense. He didn’t just play well, he became a Pro Bowler.

Smith’s high level of play has earned him plenty of recognition, and the folks at Pro Football Network certainly noticed. PFN recently ranked all 32 starting quarterbacks, and Smith was No. 10 overall.

Not only does Smith crack the top 10, he is also easily the highest-ranked quarterback in the NFC West. The Cardinals’ Kyler Murray is No. 16, and the 49ers’ Brock Purdy checks in at No. 23. Both Purdy and Murray suffered brutal season-ending injuries last year, and when they’ll return is up in the air. The Rams’ Matthew Stafford is last in the division at No. 27 overall — which is still one spot ahead of Russell Wilson.
