With much of the excitement surrounding the Florida football season deflated by Saturday night’s loss at Kentucky, UF needed to find a way to reignite some excitement ahead of this week’s game against Vanderbilt. What better way to do that than by debuting a new uniform combination?
Florida announced that the team will be wearing throwback uniforms for Saturday’s homecoming game. The jersey and pants will be the familiar blue and white look that the Gators most recently wore in last year’s win over Missouri.
But helmet-wise, they’re changing things up this time. Instead of the 1960s throwback “block F” helmets that the team has worn with these uniforms in the past, they will be wearing a new orange throwback helmet with the old interlocking “UF” logo that was standard for several years in the 1970s.

The jerseys and pants themselves harken back to the Steve Spurrier playing era of the 1960s.
This is the second time this season Florida has worn non-standard helmets, as it wore the modern white alternate helmets in the season opener against Florida Atlantic. The Gators will look to bounce back against a struggling Commodores team donning the throwback threads.
