Shemar James’ recommitment to Florida was one of the highlights of the early signing period. The four-star linebacker has signed and should be in Gainesville on Jan. 14 for his second official visit, according to On3.
A number of recruits are reportedly scheduled to be in town that weekend, including four-star safety Jacoby Mathews, four-star running back Trevor Etienne and four-star Michigan commit Kevonte Henry among others. January 14 should be a big day for Billy Napier and his ever-growing recruiting staff. Bringing in James, one of Florida’s most highly-touted signees, on the same weekend as other top recruits is a clever way to entice those who haven’t decided yet.
James isn’t there on a recruiting mission, though. Most of the signees and recruits are still getting to know Napier and his staff just as the current roster is. He’s expected to compete for playing time right off the bat, so getting him familiar with the coaches, players and new scheme will be crucial. James should be enrolled by the spring or summer if everything goes as planned.
James is ranked No. 64 overall on the 247Sports Composite List and is the seventh-best linebacker in the country. Rivals has him rated as a five-star and as the best linebacker in 2022.
