Florida football lost another member of its defensive corps to the NCAA transfer portal on Thursday with the departure of senior linebacker [autotag]Mannie Nunnery[/autotag].
The 6-foot-1-inch, 225-pound defender only spent a season with the Gators after transferring from the Houston Cougars, where he spent four years before coming to Gainesville. Nunnery has one season of eligibility remaining.
The Houston, Texas, product appeared in all 12 games for the Orange and Blue last fall including a trio of starts. He finished with 28 tackles — including 1.5 tackles for a loss and half a sack — plus a quarterback hurry and a pass breakup in a role that stretched across several positions in the defensive midfield.
“Mannie‘s another freaky athlete, man,” head coach Billy Napier said of him in late September. “He’s the fastest linebacker that we have, he tests through the roof in all the different metrics that we use.”
Nunnery’s departure marks the 25th from the Gators program this offseason. Napier’s roster is now three vacant scholarships short of the 85 scholarship cap.
