It is Tuesday on a holiday week and hopefully all is well in the lives of our loyal readers. The sports news is pretty slim at the moment save for the women’s basketball team, who finished up their 2020-21 non-conference schedule yesterday with a bang.
The Lady Gators handled the North Florida Owls at home Monday afternoon, 89-64, to improve their record to 7-1 entering the Southeastern Conference schedule. Sophomore star guard Lavender Briggs led the way for UF en route to their sixth-straight victory with 15 points, while freshman forward Jordyn Merritt also added 15 of her own.
Florida’s SEC opener will take place Dec. 31, on the road against the Vanderbilt Commodores, a team it has beaten five-straight times — UF’s longest active streak against any SEC opponent.
Until then, the only games on the docket are on Dec. 30, when the football team takes on the Oklahoma Sooners in the Cotton Bowl and the men’s’ basketball team gets back into action, also against the Commodores in Nashville.
