Cardinals buck historic trend in win over Eagles

They had only won two games in the last 20 years with a turnover margin of -3 or worse.

The Arizona Cardinals got a much-needed win on Sunday over the Philadelphia Eagles. They won 33-26 but didn’t make it easy on themselves. They turned the ball over three times while the Eagles didn’t turn it over at all.

Winning with a -3 turnover margin is rare.

In fact, according to the Cardinals’ media relations department, the Cardinals had been 2-40 in games in which they had a -3 turnover margin or greater over the last 20 years. They had lost 14 of the last 15 such contests and hadn’t won since 2016 vs. San Francisco.

Dating back to 1940, the Cardinals have had a turnover differential of -3 or worse in 201 games. Sunday’s game was just the 10th win during that span. The win over Philadelphia also marks the first time in team history the Cardinals had a turnover differential of -3 or lower with a point differential of +7 or higher.

It isn’t the way they want things to go, but the fact they overcame the turnovers is a great sign of the resolve the team has.
