The Florida Gators have officially joined the race for 2024 five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Kamarion Franklin[/autotag], according to 247Sports.
UF offered the Lake Cormorant (Mississippi) lineman a scholarship on Monday afternoon when running backs coach and area recruiting specialist Jamar Chaney caught up with him. This wasn’t the first time Florida had reached out to Franklin and the junior was expecting an offer at some point.
“It had been building up,” Franklin said. “I had been talking to Florida and getting interest from Florida for a little minute now. It was coach Chaney that I talked to and he let me know that I had an offer from them. Things been going good. They want me to come out in the spring and see what they have to offer.”
Franklin appears receptive to the idea of stopping by the Swamp but nothing is set in stone just yet. He did get a chance to Florida in action during the Texas A&M game when he was on an unofficial visit with the Aggies. Florida State and Texas have has also hosted him, and he holds offers from several elite Power Five programs.
Right now, Franklin is taking things slow and getting to know each staff as well as possible before narrowing down his options. Florida is on his short list of schools he’d like to visit in the future, but so are Michigan, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Franklin is ranked No. 21 overall on the 247Sports composite and is the fifth highest-ranked defensive lineman in the class. On3 has yet to dish out a fifth star to anyone in the class ranked outside of the top 10, but Franklin is certainly a candidate to pick one up during his senior year. The On3 consensus ranks him in a similar spot at No. 25 nationally and No. 5 in his position group.
