Gators locked with Georgia after wild first quarter

Florida and Georgia are tied after one quarter and both teams have shown some weaknesses and strengths.

It wasn’t an ideal start for the Gators.

They allowed a 75-yard touchdown to Georgia running back Zamir White on the first play from scrimmage, and after going three and out on their first possession of the game, they allowed another Bulldogs scoring drive.

Trailing 14-0 not even four minutes into the game, things were looking bleak for Florida. But its offense answered with a seven-play, 75-yard drive completed with a touchdown pass to Justin Shorter.

The UF defense settled in and managed to string together back-to-back three-and-outs. Trask led another touchdown drive culminating in a rushing touchdown from Dameon Pierce, who briefly left with an injury.

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett exited the game after apparently injuring his throwing arm and went to the locker room. He was spelled by D’Wan Mathis, who he replaced during Georgia’s season opener.

Bennett is back on the field and it appears that he will try to return at some point in this game. He is 2-of-4 passing on the game with 45 yards and a touchdown. Mathis has completed his only attempt, which went for five yards as UF was tied with the Bulldogs at 14 at the end of the first.
