A high-powered offensive performance in a 51-35 win over Ole Miss on Saturday surged Florida into the top 4 of both the AP Poll and the Amway Coaches Poll. Accordingly, the Gators have now entered the playoff field in the USA TODAY bowl projections.

Erick Smith argues that even if UF loses in the SEC Championship game, it may have a case to get into the playoff.

Which brings us to Florida. The Gators look poised to pass Georgia in the SEC East and face what now appears to be manageable games against Texas A&M and LSU from the West. If they finish 10-1 with a loss in the SEC title game, their case will be favorable compared to a less-than-stellar Big 12 winner or a Pac-12 champion that played a less-challenging schedule. That debate would be an appropriate way to end what has been a chaotic 2020.

Smith predicts the Gators will face Ohio State in the Rose Bowl semifinal while Clemson takes on Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, with the Buckeyes facing the Crimson Tide in the national championship game.

Here’s the full list of bowl projections. It just includes major games, as it’s currently unclear which bowl games will actually be played this postseason.
