Gators gain ground in KenPom after Grambling State win

Florida basketball saw a three-spot improvement in KenPom after the win on Friday.

Todd Golden and the Florida Gators earned their biggest win of the season — at least by margin of victory — on Friday with a 96-57 throttling of the Grambling State Tigers inside the O’Connell Center.

It moved the team to 9-3 on the season and maintained a perfect December with a 5-0 mark with one last game to go. The win also boosted the Gators’ standing in the objective rankings, including the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings, which saw UF move up from No. 36 to No. 33 as of Sunday following the win.

The Pomeroy rankings use adjusted efficiency margin — the difference between adjusted offensive efficiency and adjusted defensive efficiency — to rank all teams.

Golden’s gang has a margin of plus-16.92, which means the team is expected to score 16.92 more points than the average opponent. They rank 29th in adjusted offensive efficiency (114.7) but 55th in adjusted defensive efficiency (97.7)

KenPom also has Florida’s overall strength of schedule rated at plus-2.75, which is 93rd in the nation; its non-conference schedule rating received the same score and has the Gators at No. 91.

Next up for Florida are the Quinnipiac Bobcats, who travel to Gainesville on Saturday, Dec. 30 in Florida’s final non-conference game before the SEC slate. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET and the game can be watched on ESPNU.
