Gators down two spots in ESPN College Basketball Power Index

After taking down the Quinnipiac Bobcats by 25 points, the Florida Gators have dropped two spots on ESPN’s College Basketball Power Index.

Despite beating the Quinnipiac Bobcats by 25 points on Saturday, the Florida Gators fell two spots to No. 28 on Sunday on ESPN’s College Basketball Power Index.

Florida’s BPI rating — a measurement of a team’s true strength moving forward — jumped a tenth of a point to 9.8. Further broken down, the Gators’ offensive BPI moved to 6.5 and their defensive BPI fell to 3.3 after giving up 72 points to the Bobcats.

ESPN has adjusted its win-loss projections for Florida this week to 20.5-10.5 — a minus-0.2 point change from Christmas Day. The Gators are expected to win 10.5 games in conference play, which starts on Saturday. ESPN also gives Florida a 16% chance to make the Sweet 16 and a 0.2% chance to win the national championship.

Florida will face the Kentucky Wildcats to kick off SEC play. The Wildcats check in at No. 22 on the Basketball Power Index. Florida pulling off the upset could cause both teams to swap places on the list.
