Game Three Recap & Highlights: Baseball – Texas A&M vs Ole Miss

The Aggies get a much needed victory over Ole Miss for their first series win in SEC play

The Aggie pitchers must have seen my game two recap because, after the first inning, they threw a really solid game. Texas A&M (17-11) beat Ole Miss (16-11) in game three to win their first SEC series of the season.

An uninspiring start by pitcher Shane Sdao saw Ole Miss hit two doubles and a sac fly for a 0-2 start at Blue Bell Park. In the top of the third inning, the Rebels hit a solo homer and Sdao, after a mixed bag of work, was pulled for Brad Rudis who got them out of the inning. Then a solo homer by Hank Bard in the bottom of the third cut the lead.

Brett Minnich in his third game back hit his third home run against of the season for two runs tying the game at three apiece. Both teams traded out until the sixth inning with Jack Moss strolling across the home plate on a bases-loaded walk.

The Aggies took a 3-4 lead into the top of the ninth but after a hit-by-pitch and a sac fly to tie the game 4-4 going into the bottom of the ninth. Ryan Targac, who’s been struggling, hit a full-count walk-off home run to win the game and take the series.

Coach Jim Schloss gave his thoughts on the series:

On the series win…
“I still believe in our team. How valuable is Evan Aschenbeck? Even Brad Rudis came in and got some big outs and that catch in centerfield by Tab Tracy ended up being a bit tougher play than it looked. We’re battling and we’re going to see if we can get out there on Tuesday night and string a few wins together.”

On Targac’s walk off home run…
“I’m just so glad to see him rewarded. He’s such a great kid. He’s such a great teammate and he works his rear end off and he’s in there because he’s capable of changing the game with one swing.”

Final Score: Aggies 5, Rebels 4 – W: Johnston, Will (3-1); L: Nichols, Mason (1-2)
