Game Recap: Baseball – Texas A&M vs Sam Houston

Texas A&M loses to Sam Houston 9-2 in a midweek matchup

The Aggies once again lose a midweek game due to what seems like a lack of urgency. You can tell Coach Shlossnagle wanted to get some of his pitchers opportunities, but the runs never showed up to take some pressure off the pitching. Texas A&M (25-16) struggled on the mound all night with each pitcher only getting a few innings of work in the 9-2 loss to Sam Houston (24-18)

There was not much to highlight from this game outside of a few nice double plays and hits. Both teams put up a score a piece in the first inning with Ryan Targac hitting a single into shallow center field for an RBI.

But the game was never close after that. The Aggies seemed to be in coast mode and never put the peddle to the floor allowing Sam Houston to take an early lead comfortably. The Bearkats added seven more runs on the board before the Aggies finally responded in the bottom of the fifth. After Trevor Warner was walked Jace LaViolette hit a double into left-center field bringing Warner home for a score of 8-2. Then both teams cooled off until top of the ninth where Sam Houston added the last run of the game that eventually led to the final score of 9-2 for a Bearkat victory.

Coach Schloss post-game was not pleased with the effort but is ready to move on

“We’re normally better than that, tonight we weren’t,” Schlossnagle said. “We’re not going to make too much of it. We got a big series ahead. We got seven games in nine days, and we got to get some rest and get back on the road tomorrow and play a top-five team.”

Final Score: Aggies 2, Bearkats 9 – W: Shubert, Rome (2-2); L: Sexton, Ty (1-2)
