Fun fact: Jake Hummel broke Rams’ preseason tackles record

Jake Hummel was all around the ball throughout the preseason, setting the Rams’ preseason record with 22 tackles in 3 games

No one is going to see preseason stats when looking at the NFL record books, but it’s still fun to hear about preseason records being broken. After Saturday night’s loss to the Bengals, Rams coach Sean McVay told reporters a fun fact about the last three exhibition games.

He said linebacker Jake Hummel broke the Rams’ preseason record for tackles. He finished the three games with 22 total tackles, topping the previous record of 21. That seems hard to believe considering teams used to play four preseason games each, but 22 tackles is still a lot for one player in three preseason games when guys typically aren’t playing every snap.

“Jake Hummel ended up breaking the Rams preseason record tonight for 21 tackles. He’s been active throughout all three games,” McVay said.

Hummel has an outside chance of making the 53-man roster at a position where the Rams might only keep three or four players. He made a strong case this preseason with a good showing, but it may not be enough.

He could stick around on the practice squad, though.
