This weekend, D’Antae Sheffey made a visit to check out Rutgers football. For a player who is likely going to become one of the top recruits in the class of 2026, it was a chance for Rutgers to put their best foot forward.
Rutgers was the fifth Power Five offer for Sheffey, who completed his freshman season at State College High School (State College, PA) with some pretty impressive numbers.
Sheffey ran for over 1,700 rushing yards on 223 carries, finishing with 22 rushing touchdowns. It was part of a strong season for State College as they went 13-1 last season.
His Power Five offers include Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Virginia Tech as well as Rutgers. This weekend’s visit was a strong one, Sheffey said.
“It was a really good visit and the coaching staff made me feel at home,” Sheffey told Rutgers Wire.”
It was a pretty standard visit with the usual tour of the football facility and campus. But what stood out for Sheffey was the environment being created by head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag].

As part of the program’s rebuilding under Schiano, there has been an emphasis on creating a strong environment and culture.
“(They) Showed me around campus and all the classes, the dorms and it was really the atmosphere and excitement,” Sheffey said.
“It was when I was in coach Schiano’s talking about what F.A.M.I.L.Y. stands for and ‘Trust’ and ‘CHOP.’
Next weekend, Sheffey will visit Virginia Tech on Saturday and then Maryland on Monday. He will follow that with trips to Syracuse and Pittsburgh.

His visit to Rutgers was a solid one he says.
“Honestly, I love Rutgers,” Sheffey said.
“The one thing that really stood out to me was the coaches for sure and how they are always talking about family and showing how they really do care about your personal life then just your football life.”
