The 49ers are heavy favorites to beat the Cleveland Browns in Week 6. A win would be important in keeping pace atop both the NFC West and the NFC, but there’s something else on the line for San Francisco that doesn’t involve the standings.
If the 49ers snag a victory over the Browns, it will mark their 16th-consecutive regular season win, which would be the longest streak in franchise history. San Francisco hasn’t lost since a 44-23 defeat at the hands of the Chiefs in Week 7 of last season – Christian McCaffrey’s first game with the 49ers.
Since then they’ve rolled through the regular season with 10 straight to finish the 2022 campaign and another five to start this year.
Perhaps the most impressive part of the streak is that only four of the wins have been by fewer than 10 points. Only two have been decided by fewer than seven.
They’re winning and dominating in the process.
The 1989-90 49ers set the franchise record with 15-straight wins. They won the final five games of the 1989 regular season before ripping off 11 straight to open the 1990 campaign.
Sunday’s kickoff between the 49ers and Browns is set for 10:00am Pacific from Cleveland Browns Stadium.
