Fox Sports’ Ric Bucher reported on Friday that the Brooklyn Nets hope to move guard Joe Harris. The desire to make the move is driven by the payroll concerns. The team has a top-five payroll in the league and will be subject to a ‘hefty’ luxury tax because the team has repeatedly gone over the salary cap in recent seasons.
Harris is owed $18 million this season and $19 million next season. Harris is averaging almost eight points per game, but is shooting 33.3% from behind the 3-point line, which is 10 percentage points less than his career average.
Bucher explains what sources have communicated to him while explaining that the Los Angeles Lakers are in a similar situation:
“Both the Lakers and Nets are among the top five teams in player payroll this season. Both are also subject to a hefty luxury tax for having repeatedly gone over the threshold the last few years. That’s why the Nets, league sources said, also hope to move long-range shooter Joe Harris, who is set to make $18 million this year and $19 million next season.”
The trade deadline for this season is Feb.9.
