It is the worst kept secret in the state of Texas that the Longhorns are all in on 2023 wide receiver Johntay Cook.
The four-star prospect out of DeSoto is one of Steve Sarkisian’s top priorities in a very loaded 2023 class. He is rated as the No. 6 wide receiver in the country and the No. 6 overall prospect in the state of Texas, according to 247Sports.
Cook has made multiple visits to Austin, with one of his more notable trips being with the No. 1 Overall recruit, five-star quarterback Arch Manning.
The Longhorns were also included in his top seven schools, alongside programs such as Texas A&M, Alabama, and Clemson. There is a belief that he and Manning have a good chance of teaming up as they have very similar finalists.
We all know recruiting is a never ending world of craziness, and Cook threw some gasoline on the fire on Saturday when he took to Twitter to hype up Texas football.
Whether he was talking about Texas high school football or the Longhorns was unclear at the time, so the tweet sent college football fans into a frenzy.

Due to the ambush of tweets and a huge reaction from fan bases all over the country, Cook clarified he was referencing the high school level.

Regardless if the tweet wasn’t about the Longhorns, they still need to secure a receiver of the future. Xavier Worthy and Isaiah Neyor are both extremely talented, but will eventually have the chance to move on to the next level leaving Texas needing a future star like Cook to step in.
Cook has the speed and playmaking abilities to come in and immediately have a Worthy-like impact.
